Gordon was introduced to alcohol at a very young age, he loved what it did to and for him, he found his god and proceeded to invest his life in the use and abuse of alcohol and drugs for many years. His addictions took him on journeys that he never imagined, he went to places that were only in his nightmares, his god alcohol told him he was fine, on the right track, he had it all and in the end he had nothing left. Gordon was bankrupt physically, emotionally, mentally and financially, no friends, parents disowned him, lost jobs, divorce, car wrecks, attempted suicides, hospitalizations, mental institutions, served time in the Navy Brig.

The end or was it the beginning, who knew, certainly not Gordon. He survived a horrendous residential gas explosion being blown literally out of his socks and shoes, suffered third degree burns over 40% of his body the prognosis was dim, he survived, another miracle God could pull off. Life and living was overwhelming, held no meaning, deep in the throws of his addictions, the only way out was suicide, end the pain, stop the train I must get off. I have known Gordon Rouston for the better part of fifteen years. At first I just listened to him share his experience strength and hope. Gordon Rouston had it all, loving parents, house with the white picket fence in suburban Detroit, a Boxer named Duke his constant companion and best friend, horses-Gordon became an accomplished equestrian riding hunters and jumpers, hanging out with the rich and famous, played polo. Later in his childhood he enjoyed not one but two homes, the second in Palm Beach Florida. Attended school graduating 10 from the bottom in a class of over 300, went off to college to prove he could succeed, held a 3.8 average and dropped out because he had no idea what he wanted to do with his life.
